A Call To Organized Protest!

On the afternoon of October 24th, 2003 hundreds of women on the adult website, Adult Friend Finder (referred to after this as AFF) found that the privileges of unlimited profile viewing that they had been enjoying had been abruptly ended without warning. Many of us thought it was a temporary thing, that it was a new AFF marketing ploy to try to get us to purchase a Premium Membership. Soon, we were to discover differently...

A few who were brave and curious enough to email AFF customer service, received a disappointing reply. To summarize: AFF had, over time, received many complaints from male Standard Members complaining that it was unfair that women seemed to have unlimited profile viewing privileges while they had a thumbnail image and a glimpse of a tiny bit of the profile. Recently, AFF had received a correspondence from a male threatening a lawsuit for discriminating against men by this practice. In response, AFF had taken away ALL profile viewing from every Standard Member, male and female.

AFF had extended unlimited profile viewing to female Standard Members to draw more females to the site. A sensible move since, by its nature, AFF draws far more males than females. Men have always complained that there seemed to be few females to choose from on Adult sites, and this was a good way to promote AFF's services to women, since most women are sensibly more cautious on these type of sites then men are and like to have more information about the men they meet there. By protesting this policy a few less than insightful males are ruining the fun for many.

Even though there are many Standard Member women upset about this change, I've found an even number of Premium Member men who are smart enough to realize that this policy change could make it far more difficult to meet women on AFF. On this page, I propose a sensible and organized way to protest this policy change and, hopefully, bring us back to the happy community we had.

How to take part in this organized protest:

If we all do the same thing at the same time, banding together to make a point, the strength of our numbers might get the attention of the powers that be at AFF. Both Standard Members and Premium Members can take part in this protest, but we Standard Members will understand if the only thing you're willing to do is write a letter to AFF Customer Feedback in protest. The full Organized Protest involves only a few simple steps as follows:
  • Write an email to AFF Customer Feedback Please refrain from vulgar and abusive language and express yourself clearly and calmly. When I wrote my letter, I expressed why I thought it was important that women have access to profiles. I also told them that, while I would continue to use the site and the chat rooms, that I would be less likely to meet anyone or chat privately with anyone when I didn't have access to at least part of their profile. I did not threaten in any way, I was just truthful and to the point.

  • Turn off your profile This is the hardcore part of the protest. In this way, we make a point -- if we cannot see anyone's profile, then our profiles will be equally inaccessible. There are enough female Standard Members so that if we band together in this way a huge statement will be made...and I predict that those less than insightful males may just get the point.

  • Put an autoreply message on your AFF mail explaining why your profile is shut off. Short, sweet, and to the point. Something like, "I have turned off my profile in protest of AFF's new change in policy limiting female Standard Members access to profiles." If you want to refer them to this site for a full explanation, remember to put random spaces in the URL...especially in between the 3 w's or it will not be approved.

  • Pass this information along Tell all of your friends on AFF, go into other chat rooms and talk it up, TELL EVERYONE. If you don't talk this up, we won't get the numbers we need to make this effective.

Wooohooooo...Let's do this people!

If we all band together in this, we can be effective. If anyone has the attitude to pull this off it's a bunch of audacious AFF members...so get protestin' people!
